The aims of the qualification are to enable candidates to develop and demonstrate a range of personal, key and employability skills, leading to personal effectiveness, and to broaden experience and manage learning through the enrichment activities provided by ASDAN programmes. The qualification allows learners to receive formal recognition and accreditation for these skills.

Tariff points for the AoPE come into effect for entry to higher education from 2013 onwards.
