The different decisions a university or college can send us

Step 3: Offers

Invitations

Universities and colleges can use Track to send invitations to applicants asking them to attend for interview or audition, or to provide a portfolio of work, an essay or other piece of work. The invitations can be for any course. If the university or college sends your son or daughter an invitation this will show on Track and they will be able to accept or decline it online. If your son or daughter needs to change the time or date they'll need to contact the university or college. They can then update the details of the invitation so that the revised details are shown in Track.

Decisions sent by universities and colleges

Conditional offer

A conditional offer means that the university or college will offer a place if your son or daughter meets certain conditions, which are usually based on their exams. Each offer is specific to their qualifications and circumstances.

Unconditional offer

An unconditional offer means that they have met all the academic requirements and the university or college is happy to accept them.

Withdrawn application

A choice can be withdrawn by your son or daughter or by the university or college. The reason will be displayed in Track. It may be withdrawn because they didn't respond to any letters or emails from the university or college, or because they didn't attend an interview.

Unsuccessful application

This means that the university or college has decided not to offer them a place on the course.

What to do if they are unsuccessful

Please remember that universities and colleges can decline an applicant for many reasons, one of which could be that the course is full, so it may not be personal. The university or college may provide a reason for their decision on Track at the time of their initial decision, or at a later date. However, if your son or daughter has already replied to their offers or no reason is shown on Track, they will have to contact the university or college direct to discuss the reason why they were unsuccessful.
