at the heart of connecting people to higher education

CPD workshop: Verification and fraud

Overview

This workshop considers what we mean by fraud and explores the types of fraud that HEIs might encounter. It provides an understanding of what the UCAS Verification Unit does in the fight to prevent and detect fraud (and the limitations to its service). It examines the impact of diversity agendas when trying to identify and deal with application fraud.

Who should attend?

This workshop will be of value to anyone, new or experienced, in the marketing, recruitment or admissions teams, or those responsible for developing policy and procedures. Fraud is a growth industry from which no-one (and no individual HEI) is exempt, and HEIs will have new requirements to meet with the implementation of the points-based system for international students.

Learning objectives

By the end of the workshop participants will be able to:

  • demonstrate knowledge of the main elements of UCAS application fraud (including personal statement similarity detection services)
  • know where to go for further help to deal with application fraud
  • explain the impact of diversity agendas when trying to identify application fraud
  • have an awareness of current good practice surrounding the detection and prevention of application fraud.
