In addition to the general comparability work, consideration of the extent to which qualifications help to prepare students for higher education is recorded through completion of Tariff domain scores. The Tariff domains were developed in consultation with HE admissions staff and cover 10 skills areas/domains, each with three statements for which a score is provided on a scale of 0 - 5.
The ten equally weighted domains are:
The scoring scale works as follows:
| 0 | There is no evidence present in this qualification. |
| 1 | The qualification achieved at this grade provides practically no opportunity for a candidate to develop and evidence the skills/tasks associated with the statement in question. |
| 2 | The qualification provides little opportunity for a candidate to develop and evidence the skills/tasks associated with the statement in question. |
| 3 | The qualification provides reasonable opportunity for a candidate to develop and evidence the skills/tasks associated with the statement in question. |
| 4 | The qualification provides a number of different opportunities for a candidate to develop and evidence the skills/tasks associated with the statement in question. |
| 5 | The qualification provides a number of significant opportunities for a candidate to develop and evidence the skills/tasks associated with the statement in question. |
Experts completing the Tariff domain scoring provide cross references to evidence in the materials considered and provide a justification for judgements made.
