Qualifications and Credit Framework (QCF)
A new framework for creating and accrediting qualifications in England, Wales and Northern Ireland, the Qualifications and Credit Framework (QCF), has been developed by the Qualifications and Curriculum Development Agency (QCDA). It is designed to make the whole system more flexible and accessible, and the qualifications offered more relevant to learners' needs. In 2010 all vocational qualifications were brought into the new framework, replacing the National Qualifications Framework (NQF).
We have worked with staff from the QCDA and SPA to produce a set of frequently asked questions (FAQs) about the QCF for HE admissions staff. This will be updated as the QCF develops. View the FAQs
We have also created a leaflet about the QCF and how it will impact on HE admissions. This outlines the differences between the new and old systems, what you need to be aware of when considering applications from students with these qualifications, and how you can work out whether they are likely to be suitable for entry to your courses.
