Your commitments and an applicant's commitments to decisions

An applicant who firmly accepts an unconditional offer is committed to taking up the place. In normal circumstances, withdrawal from the scheme is the only other option the applicant can make. Withdrawal from the scheme does not allow entry into Clearing.

Mature student portraitIf an applicant firmly accepts a conditional offer, they are committed to taking it if they meet the conditions. Following a recommendation from the Delivery Partnership Steering Group, in 2009 the Adjustment period was introduced. It provides applicants who meet and exceed the conditions of their firm (CF) choice with an opportunity to reconsider what and where to study whilst still holding their original choice. Institutions must not consider applicants with grades the same or lower than the offer that they originally accepted. Find out more about Adjustment.

In normal circumstances, an applicant may only withdraw from a firm acceptance of a conditional offer commitment by withdrawal from the scheme.

An insurance acceptance of either a conditional offer (CI) or an unconditional offer (UI) represents a similar commitment should any CF offer held not be confirmed.
