Of the UK institutions listed by UCAS as offering higher education (HE) courses, the vast majority have written and provided a generic statement reflecting their position on accepting the Advanced Diploma as a route onto their undergraduate courses. This includes all of the research-intensive Russell Group and 1994 Group universities, and all of the Million+ and University Alliance universities.
UCAS members have submitted course-level admissions information to UCAS for 2010 admissions. This information includes the acceptability for each Line of Learning and guidance for what Additional and Specialist Learning will be required for application to HE.
The following groups have also released statements regarding the Diploma.
To find out more about these groups, visit the university groups page on this site.
K12: Keele University
Keele University welcomes the introduction of the 14-19 Diplomas and will accept the Advanced Diploma as equivalent to three A-levels. For entry to a number of degree courses at Keele, particular subject backgrounds at level 3 are required and these may not be covered by the initial Diploma lines. Keele would also expect students to demonstrate a high level of attainment in their Diploma work. We would advise all students taking the Advanced Diploma to contact Keele's Undergraduate Admissions Office before they make their UCAS application to discuss their options.
K24: The University of Kent
The University of Kent welcomes the introduction of the new Diploma Qualifications and is pleased to consider the Advanced Diploma for entry to its undergraduate degree programmes. The University appreciates the wider skills students will achieve through Generic Learning and Extended Project, as well as specific subject-related knowledge through the Principle Learning and Additional and Specialist Learning. Applicants should note that some degree courses require certain subject knowledge at an advanced level, and in these cases, students will be asked to achieve an A level in an appropriate subject or a specific Diploma unit, as part of their Additional and Specialist Learning. The University will continue to review the Diploma specifications as they are released, and will publish more detailed guidelines for individual degree programmes in due course.
K60: King's College London (University of London)
King's welcomes applications from those studying the new Diploma (level 3) qualification. The College has not yet finalised specific entrance requirements for our programmes at this stage. We do expect that certain programmes will require specific subjects/qualifications within the Additional and/or Specialist Learning of the Diploma. We recommend that potential applicants check the King's website for up to date information on entry requirements.
K84: Kingston University
Kingston University welcomes the new Advanced Diplomas as an exciting new route into higher education (HE) and believes that the development of Personal Learning and Thinking Skills will be of significant benefit as a preparation for HE level study. The Extended Project provides a valuable opportunity for in-depth work and will help to develop skills of independent learning. Kingston University therefore welcomes applications for 2010 entry from Advanced Diploma students from all five Diploma subjects, both to related HE courses at Foundation degree and Honours degree level.
