Of the UK institutions listed by UCAS as offering higher education (HE) courses, the vast majority have written and provided a generic statement reflecting their position on accepting the Advanced Diploma as a route onto their undergraduate courses. This includes all of the research-intensive Russell Group and 1994 Group universities, and all of the Million+ and University Alliance universities.
UCAS members have submitted course-level admissions information to UCAS for 2010 admissions. This information includes the acceptability for each Line of Learning and guidance for what Additional and Specialist Learning will be required for application to HE.
The following groups have also released statements regarding the Diploma.
To find out more about these groups, visit the university groups page on this site.
E10: Ealing, Hammersmith and West London College
EHWLC welcomes applications from students who are studying the new Advanced and Progression Diploma qualifications. Specific requirements will depend on the subjects applied for to ensure that candidates have developed subject knowledge and study skills relevant for the course for which they have applied.
E14: University of East Anglia
In order to make the 14-19 curriculum more flexible and useful, the government is making changes to A-levels and introducing a range of new Diplomas. The University welcomes these reforms. Although students holding the resulting new A-levels or Advanced Diplomas will not be applying for entry to the University until September 2009, we would like to advise prospective applicants at this stage that we will consider both qualifications for entry depending upon suitability of the subject(s) offered and the degree programme applied for. More detailed information concerning acceptable subjects for entry will be published in the 2010 entry prospectus and on the University website.
E21: East End Computing and Business College
We will be happy to consider applications from candidates for the 14-19 Advanced Diplomas which are accepted by the awarding bodies with whom we are affiliated as their authorized tuition provider.
E25: East Lancashire Institute of HE at Blackburn College
ELIHE will welcome applications to undergraduate courses from students taking the new 14-19 Advanced Diplomas. For specific information relating to entry requirements for individual courses please contact the Admissions Office.
E28: University of East London
The University of East London has a long tradition of welcoming students with a wide range of qualifications and supporting them throughout their studies so that they may achieve their potential within higher education. We therefore welcome the new diplomas and believe that they will enable a wider range of applicants to participate in higher education, having gained practical experience in the application of academic learning. Whilst we have not as yet mapped these new diplomas onto specific entry requirements, it is most likely that they will be accepted for entry as part of the UCAS tariff, with some programmes requiring an A level in a subject relevant to the degree in addition to the diploma. We recognise that young people, their teachers and their parents/carers need to have the specific details about entry to our programmes and we aim to have our definitive statement on entry following diploma study by September 2008.
E32: East Surrey College
East Surrey College is supportive of the new Diplomas and welcome applications from learners achieving these new qualifications.
E42: Edge Hill University
The University welcomes the developments in the 14-19 Curriculum and acknowledges the merits of applied learning and employer involvement associated with these. The development of Personal Learning and Thinking skills will be of significant benefit as a preparation for HE level study. We are working closely with those developing the new Diplomas to advise on curriculum design and entry to Higher Education. As a University committed to widening participation and providing opportunities for all potential students, we will recognise the new Advanced Diploma as the equivalent of 3 A Levels and meeting the entry requirements of Degree and Foundation Degree courses at the University and associated Colleges. UCAS Tariff Points attributed to the Diploma grades will be recognised fully. As with any University qualification, entry requirements may specify a particular subject specialism, whilst the grades needed for entry will vary.
E56: The University of Edinburgh
The University is hopeful that diplomas will provide a progression route to related degree programmes. It will of course be necessary to consider, as details become available, whether the content and assessment standard of each diploma meet the academic and non-academic prerequisites for particular programmes.
E58: Edinburgh College of Art
Edinburgh College of Art will consider applicants presenting the Advanced (level 3) Diplomas for entry to the first year Undergraduate degree programmes in relevant subject areas. All programmes have specific additional subject/entry requirements. For more information please contact our Academic Registry Office.
E70: The University of Essex
Although we would not expect students with the new Diploma to be entering University before 2010, we would like to advise students that the University expects to be able to accept the Advanced Diplomas for entry to our degree courses. Entry to specific degree courses may be dependent on the Diploma taken and the degree course applied for.
E77: European Business School, London
We welcome applications from students studying the new Diplomas.
E81: Exeter College
Exeter College supports the introduction of the new 14 - 19 Diplomas and will consider applications from holders of these awards for entry in 2010 and onwards in line with the agreed UCAS Tariff. Entry may be dependent on the Diploma taken and the specific course applied for.
E84: University of Exeter
The University supports the introduction of these Diplomas and will consider applications from holders of these awards for entry in 2010 in line with the agreed UCAS Tariff. Please note that it is anticipated that specific additional learning requirements may be required for degree programmes that currently require specific A-Level subjects/grades as stated in the university prospectus.
