Statements from universities and colleges about the Diploma
Of the UK institutions listed by UCAS as offering higher education (HE) courses, the vast majority have written and provided a generic statement reflecting their position on accepting the Advanced Diploma as a route onto their undergraduate courses. This includes all of the research-intensive Russell Group and 1994 Group universities, and all of the Million+ and University Alliance universities.
UCAS members have submitted course-level admissions information to UCAS for 2010 admissions. This information includes the acceptability for each Line of Learning and guidance for what Additional and Specialist Learning will be required for application to HE.

A20: The University of Aberdeen
We are currently considering the acceptability of the new Diplomas for our undergraduate degree courses and would hope that our entry requirements can be modified to accommodate the new qualification. At the time of writing, we hope that the Engineering Diploma, with some additional qualifications, will provide appropriate preparation for our MEng and BEng degrees. With regard to BSc and MA degrees, the University is hopeful that the new Diplomas will provide a progression route for entry and we are currently assessing the standard of each Diploma to ensure academic and non-academic prerequisites are achievable. It is likely that additional learning requirements will be required for degree programmes that currently require specific A Level subject/grade, as stated in our Undergraduate Prospectus. At the current time, it is highly unlikely that anyone offering the Advanced Diploma (including Health, Society and Development), alone will qualify for entry to our MBChB degree (A100).
A30: University of Abertay Dundee
The University welcomes the development of Diplomas and will consider applicants presenting these qualifications for entry to Undergraduate degree programmes in relevant subject areas. Certain degree courses may have specific subject requirements.
A40: Aberystwyth University (Uni of Wales, Aberystwyth)
Changes to 14-19 Curriculum in England: Aberystwyth is aware of the changes that are taking place in England in terms of the revised A-levels, GCSEs, functional skills and the introduction of the Extended Project as well as the new Diplomas. We are supportive of these changes in principle and welcome applicants offering these new qualifications for 2009 entry. A42: ALRA (The Academy of Live and Recorded Arts)
We welcome applications from students studying the new Diplomas.
A45: The College of Agriculture, Food & Rural Enterprise
CAFRE is currently considering the new Diploma qualification and is likely to find it acceptable as an entry qualification. Further work will be undertaken regarding specific entry requirements across the various discipline areas.
A50: American InterContinental University
American InterContinental University welcomes applications to undergraduate courses from students taking the new 14-19 Advanced Diplomas. The University will look at the subject of the Advanced Diploma being studied to ensure that it is relevant to the programme applied for on a case-by-case basis ensuring that every student is appropriately advised for entry onto their chosen course.
A60: Anglia Ruskin University
Anglia Ruskin University has a long tradition of welcoming students with a wide range of qualifications and supporting them throughout their studies so that they may achieve their potential within higher education. As a key partner in the new Diploma delivery in Cambridgeshire and Essex, we welcome the new Diplomas as an exciting alternative to the traditional A Level route into HE. Our University has been working with local deliverers of the new qualification and we acknowledge the merits of applied learning and employer involvement and believe that the development of Personal Learning and Thinking Skills will be of significant benefit as preparation for HE level study. Anglia Ruskin University therefore welcomes applications from students with Diplomas for entry onto any of it's undergraduate HE programmes. The new diplomas will be accepted for entry as part of the UCAS tariff, some programmes will also require an A level in a subject relevant to the degree.
A65: Anglo European College of Chiropractic
We should be happy to consider applications from holders of the new Advanced Diplomas from 2010. Early indications are that level 3 Advanced Diplomas in science, including chemistry and biology, may meet the standard entry requirements for the MChiro degree programme. However, the whole applicant profile will be taken into consideration and judged on its own merit, and it is possible that applicants may need to take specific additional and specialised learning options to gain admission.
A70: Askham Bryan College
Askham Bryan College welcomes the new 14-19 Diplomas and will consider the Advanced Diploma equally and individually with other level 3 qualifications for 2010 entry. Further advice on specific requirements is available from the Admissions Office.
A80: Aston University, Birmingham
Aston welcomes applications from students seeking to broaden their studies in an applied manner and considers the Extended and Advanced Diplomas to meet the general level required for University studies. Specific Additional Learning options, or in some cases additional qualifications, may be required for courses with subject-specific entry requirements.
