Step 6: Starting university or college

When students start at a university or college, just like at any time, they may have some problems or feel like they need to speak to someone for advice and support.

From academic problems to more general issues (for example, issues with accommodation or legal problems), there are lots of people willing to help. From homesickness or health problems to concerns about workload or friends, chances are there are others in exactly the same situation as they are or at least people with experience of helping those who are.

Many universities and colleges have their own welfare, advice or guidance centres with help and advice all under one roof.

More detailed information for students on the kind of help and support available for specific problems is available in the students' section.
