Letters and guides sent to applicants

Below are examples of the letters we send to applicants. We hope you find it useful to know what we say to applicants at the different stages of making their application. Wherever possible, the examples contain typical data in order to give you a clear idea of the format and content of the letter.

Welcome letter (AS2) - sent to an applicant when we receive the application. They are sent a copy of Your UCAS Welcome Guide with this letter.
Offer letter (AS3) - sent when a university or college makes an offer.
Unsuccessful letter (AS4) - sent when an application to a university or college has been unsuccessful.
Replying to Offers letter (AS6) - sent when an applicant has received decisions from all their choices and has received at least one offer. It asks them to reply to their offer(s) by a given date.
Status Check letter (AS9) - sent to confirm that we have recorded their replies correctly.
Confirmation letter (AS12) - sent if an applicant firmly accepts an unconditional offer, or if their place has been confirmed by the university or college once exam results are published.
New Options letter (AS13) - sent with information about other options available if their place has not been confirmed.
Welcome letter for Clearing (AS2) - sent to applicants who apply after 30 June 2013.

If the applicant has provided a verified email address, the AS3, AS4 and AS6 letters will be available online in Track instead of sent in the post.

Advisory letter 2012 - sent in June to all UCAS appliants regardless of their status.
Clearing and Adjustment 2012 leaflet - sent with the Advisory letter.

Your UCAS Welcome Guide (PDF)
The Welcome Guide is sent to an applicant once we have processed their application. It is sent with the welcome letter and contains advice on the next steps of the application process, such as replying to offers, Extra and Clearing.
