Confirmation and Clearing toolkit

Helping you pass on key information about Confirmation and Clearing

This toolkit is designed to give you everything you need to explain Confirmation, Clearing and Adjustment to your students. More items will be added soon so check back regularly for more useful ways to help your students.

  • A note to advisers - giving an overview of the toolkit and advice to advisers
  • Lesson exercises covering Confirmation, Clearing and Adjustment, and the answers to each - these can fit around a variety of learning styles. Each encourages individuals to do their own research so they know where to turn when they are faced with making decisions this summer.
  • Adviser checklist - this gives you a quick view of what you can do to make sure the process is as smooth as possible for your students.
  • A parent communication - this information can be copied into the format you use to communicate with parents. It provides all the key pointers which will hopefully ensure that both parents and students alike are more informed about what to expect this summer.
  • A myth buster sheet - this is all about providing clarity on some of those rumours that circulate each year at this time, many of which cause individuals even more worry. It could be used as a discussion prompt within class.
  • A poster - highlighting the areas of this website which will help students prepare for results day and Clearing.
  • Posters covering the Track, Clearing and Adjustment - these can be displayed around your school or college to give students information on each on the services and how to find out more.

Extra toolkit

An Extra choice is available if they need it

Extra presents a valuable opportunity to add another choice in advance of results day. We know that some students - and even some teachers and advisers - aren't familiar with Extra, so to help you explain how it works and the benefits of using it, we've created this Extra Toolkit.

It's designed to help you reassure students who have been unsuccessful with all their choices, or those who are worried they won't secure a place.

This toolkit contains the following information:

  • Class exercise (PDF) - this is designed to be flexible, so although it's arranged as a chart it can also work well as a quiz. Your students will find all the information they need in the Extra section of this website and in the Using Extra (how-to) video at www.ucas.tv. The answers (PDF) to the exercise are also included.

  • Applicant FAQs (PDF) - these are for you to pass on to your students, and they can also help you answer any questions you may be asked about Extra. They are based on the most common queries we receive about this stage of the application cycle.

  • Myth busters (PDF) - providing the truth behind the rumours, this sheet can be used to prompt discussion with your students.

  • Suggested wording for communication with parents (PDF) - this covers the key points around Extra. You can copy and paste it in to whichever format you use to communicate with parents.

We would welcome your feedback on all the information we have provided. Did you find it useful? Did the format work for you and your students? Any comments and suggestions would be gratefully received at ucas.editors@ucas.ac.uk.
