UCAS Connect goes mobile with app

University hopefuls gearing up for their exam results this week will be able to get helpful advice and tips from UCAS wherever they are thanks to a brand new app for the Connect platform.

The launch of the UCAS Connect mobile service comes after the tool received more than 18,000 visitors from over 100 countries in the first few weeks of it opening.

Kirstie Buchanan, of Rippleffect, which developed the app, believes it offers applicants "UCAS in their pockets". It will be especially useful as A-level students await their exam results over the coming days and need to find out about their application.

The app provides top tips, frequently asked questions and video guides, as well as access to UCAS' interactive search tool. Installing Connect also gives access to the UCAS Twitter account and Facebook page, where real-time answers from expert advisers can be read.

One of the key advantages of using the UCAS Connect tool is that it means in many cases people do not have to make a phone call. Over 65 per cent of users of the service have said it meant they did not need to ring up.

Beth Hayes from UCAS says the app "provides instant help at the touch of a phone screen, allowing us to reach busy people at a time that suits them". She adds: "Applicants can get the answers they need without having to call, which is especially valuable to international students."

Kirstie Buchanan added: "You can actually learn quite a bit in sixty seconds. It's possible to educate and entertain whilst ensuring we get direct messages of help and support across. We have created a fantastic product that not only advises users on what to do, but shares anecdotes that make their experience more engaging."

The app is available for download on Apple, Nokia and Android phones. It is also now possible to download a mobile version of the UCAS website. In addition to all the latest UCAS news, it links to the admission service's own social network yougofurther.
