The first UCAS Higher Education Social Media Conference was held at Prospero House in London yesterday [Tuesday 23 October 2012] with over 150 delegates from a variety of organisations including universities, colleges, and commercial partners.
The Conference was designed to bring together expertise and provide education institutions with the tools to advance their social media presence and build successful relationships with key audiences.
Twitter was used during the day by delegates and over 900 tweets contained the Conference's official hashtag #ucassm.
UCAS picked up the Customer Contact Association (CCA) Excellence Award for the Most Effective Use of Social Media award in 2011.
The conference was highlighted by a presentation from Perry Hewitt, Chief Digital Officer from Harvard University providing an American university's view of social media.
Dana Cameron, UCAS Assistant Director of Marketing said: 'We have been delighted to see so many delegates at this, our first HE social media conference. Having a speaker fly in from Harvard and delegates come from across the UK is a tremendous endorsement of the expectation people have of UCAS and its ability to deliver a top quality conference of this kind.
'I can see us delivering something similar but even better next year. Social Media is here to stay and it is so important that the education sector is on board with understanding how it works and the power of using it well.'
UCAS has dedicated advisers on Twitter (@ucas_online) and Facebook (www.facebook.com/ucasonline) ready to answer any questions about the application process.
