Applications to study medicine, dentistry or veterinary medicine/science from autumn 2013 must be submitted to UCAS by midnight (UK time) on Monday 15 October 2012. The deadline also affects anyone applying for courses at the universities of Oxford or Cambridge.
Cathy Gilbert, Director of Customer Strategy at UCAS, has some key advice to help guide people through the process: 'With the 15 October deadline getting near, it's important to make sure everyone is clear on what's required before pressing 'submit' whether you're a student, teacher or parent.
'If applying through a school or college, remember that teachers and advisers will need to write a reference and check through the application before sending it to UCAS, so they'll need it well before the 15 October deadline.'
Cathy, who recently revealed her top dos and don'ts for applying to university, added: 'Thoroughly researching courses, remembering the deadlines and making the most of UCAS advice will really help you in making a successful application.'
Not all choices need to be made by the 15 October deadline though, as Cathy explains: 'Students can submit the application with the choices that need to meet the deadline and then add further choices at a later date by logging onto Track [on the UCAS website].'
This means there is no need to rush into choices that don't have to be made until later.
The application deadline for other courses and universities is Tuesday 15 January 2013, although some art and design courses (check on UCAS Course Search) ask for applications to be in by Sunday 24 March 2013.
Applications received by these deadlines are guaranteed to be considered by the relevant universities and colleges.
An application received after this date (and before Sunday 30 June 2013) will still be sent to the universities and colleges, though it will only be considered if there are vacancies.
