Hollyoaks stars share the realities of the acting world with youngsters thinking of studying performing arts

Compose your future is a one day performing arts exhibition for students interested in getting into performing arts, music, dance, drama, broadcasting and much more.

Run by UCAS the annual event is taking place at Manchester Central Convention Complex on Monday 8 October 2012. Almost 1,800 students have already booked to attend.

Tamaryn Payne who plays Annalise Appleton and David Atkins, who plays Rob Edwards in the popular Channel 4 soap, will be discussing the realities of acting in a special workshop. The audience will find out about the glamour and not so glamorous side of show business. They'll also have the chance to ask the actors questions.

Other exciting activities include a Management and Production Workshop run by Buckingham New University, designed to eliminate the myths surrounding the music and entertainment industry; an interactive session with Edge Hill University where you'll find out 'what you'll do on a dance degree', live demonstrations in video editing by the Backstage Academy and broadcasting demos in the University of Bradford's outside broadcasting truck.

Over 50 universities will be exhibiting, all offering degree courses within the performing arts based subjects. Other educational providers offering practical work based learning opportunities will also be available. This event is a great opportunity for young people to talk to the course providers directly about their future study options.

There will also be live performances by current performing arts students to enjoy throughout the day.

Phil Ross, Head of Events at UCAS said: 'As a music graduate performing arts is something I'm passionate about - I know firsthand how enjoyable and rewarding a performing arts degree can be. An event like this offering a huge range of interactive workshops, celebrity experiences and demos gives prospective students a unique insight into what they can expect, as well as the practical student advice they might need. Manchester is the perfect place to hold this annual event, as it's now home to the fantastic BBC North and has a great arts scene.'
