19 - 21 September 2012
The UCAS International Team is in Dublin this month, helping anyone who hopes to go to university or college in the UK next year.
UCAS is now open for 2013 applications and will be offering vital advice at the Irish Times Higher Options event taking place between 19 - 21 September in Dublin.
Clicking on Apply on the UCAS website is just the start of a journey which requires detailed research.
The UCAS team will explain the essential parts of the application process, such as getting the best out of open days, writing personal statements, interview preparation and more.
There will be guides to pick up and leaflets to flick through, as well as an informative talk taking place at 10:30 each morning.
So far this year 1,957 applicants from the Republic of Ireland have been accepted into universities and colleges in England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland. This compares to 2,390 at the same stage last year.
The top subjects for Irish applicants are medicine and subjects related to medicine. Those courses have an early application deadline of 15 October 2012, so many people will want to start work on their applications right away.
For over two decades The Irish Times Higher Options has been helping Leaving Cert, Transition Year and 5th year students, to make decisions about their study and career options.
The event offers students the opportunity to meet with representatives from universities, colleges and education institutions from Ireland, the UK, the rest of Europe and beyond.
Sally Mansell, Head of International Strategy at UCAS said, 'We are delighted to be at The Irish Times Higher Options event. We know that thousands of Irish people want to study in the UK each year, but also that our system of applying is very different and students often have lots of questions for us.
'This event is a great way for us to talk directly to thousands of potential applicants, support their decision- making and help them to create quality applications. We're really excited to be there.'
