Innovative UCAS social media team victorious

Staff at UCAS are celebrating after coming away victorious at the Customer Contact Association (CCA) Excellence Awards.

At the event, which was held in Glasgow on Wednesday 9 November, the UCAS social media team won the Most Effective Use of Social Media award.

Beth Hayes, UCAS online experience executive, said: "We're delighted our efforts have been recognised. UCAS needs to be where our audience is and be able to adapt to new communication channels; that's where social media comes in.

"The UCAS Connect website is our latest venture, bringing together all our social media channels in one place online. The mobile app version of UCAS Connect means applicants can always get the help they need, even on the go."

Liam Burns, NUS President, said: "It is unusual for organisations to engage with social media in such a proactive way and to genuinely change procedures off the back of their social media interaction. This is exactly where UCAS should be and we look forward to working with them closely in the future to give applicants the best information and guidance possible."

The win came on the same day that applicant blogs were added to the UCAS Connect website.

The CCA Excellence Awards recognise achievements of individuals and organisations committed to delivering outstanding customer service. The ceremony was the highlight of the CCA Convention 2011, the topic of this year's being 'the connected customer'. As well as UCAS, brands such as Orange, Barclays, British Gas and Sainsbury's were there.

The UCAS Customer Service Unit previously won the Manager of the Year award for Kate Butland's efforts in 2009.
