Key Points
The ability to submit applications for all UCAS courses has been available since early September. 15 October is the 'equal consideration' deadline for Medicine/Dentistry/Veterinary courses and all Oxford and Cambridge courses; the majority of applicants reported on below have applied for these courses. There are also applicants that have submitted applications for courses covered by the January 15 deadline only.
The total number of applicants for courses with a 15 October deadline has fallen by 0.8%. For those UK domiciled applicants aged 18 (only), applicants in this age group for courses with a 15 October deadline (who would generally not have had the opportunity to apply in 2011) have increased by 1.1% against a slight fall in the population number.
Applicants for all courses, including those for courses covered by the 15 January deadline, are down by 9.0%. Year-on-year changes for all courses at this early stage in the cycle are often different from the position later in the cycle.
It is too early in the cycle to extrapolate applicant volumes forward.
