UCAS' new Chief Executive Mary Curnock Cook has taken up her appointment this week, beginning a new era for the admissions service based in Cheltenham.
Her appointment, announced in July, follows the departure of Anthony McClaran who left to take up the post of Chief Executive of the Quality Assurance Agency in October.
Mary, previously Director of Qualifications and Skills at the Qualifications and Curriculum Development Agency joined the organisation, formerly known as QCA, in October 2003 to lead on the 14-19 Reform programme and the UK Vocational Qualifications Reform Programme.
Acting Chief Executive, Virginia Isaac said: 'We are very excited to welcome Mary to Rosehill. Under her leadership, UCAS will continue to go from strength to strength. With her background in the private, public and not-for-profit sectors and wide experience of education, she brings a range of skills and perspectives to UCAS.'
Mary said: 'It is a privilege to be leading UCAS at a time when Higher Education and admissions issues play such an important part in society and the economy. My focus will be on understanding the needs of our customers and stakeholders, and on continuous improvement of the services we provide to the sector and to candidates.'
