UCAS Media Ltd (the commercial subsidiary of UCAS) is pleased to have acquired the education business of VIS Communications Ltd, which was placed in administration earlier this week. The swift acquisition has ensured that the jobs of eight staff, based in Coventry, have been secured.
UCAS Media will move quickly to try to ensure continuity of service to some 22 local authorities, providers, learners and those that support them who have been using VIS 14 - 19 products. VIS products include the Common Application Process (CAP), Local Area Prospectuses (LAP) and Individual Learning Plan (ILP) provided by the company formerly known as VIS Ltd. These products support the 14-19 reform, including post-16 education application facilities and information advice and guidance (IAG) support.
For the past 40 years UCAS has operated an admissions service for all students wishing to pursue full-time undergraduate courses at universities and colleges within the UK. It also offers a variety of other application services, including one for postgraduate entry (UKPASS), graduate teacher training (GTTR), the conservatoires admissions service (CUKAS) and Aimhigher Summer Schools.
UCAS Media sees considerable synergy between the 14 - 19 applications arena and the university and college applications market. UCAS Media will not only be able to bring added financial investment to VIS' education business, but also considerable technical knowledge and expertise in major systems, in addition to a wealth of experience in understanding and supporting first-hand learners, stakeholders and the education sector as a whole.
Over the next few weeks UCAS Media will be communicating with all local authorities to advise them of the service that will be on offer.
Anthony McClaran, Managing Director of UCAS Media and Chief Executive of UCAS said 'UCAS and UCAS Media are aware that we have a very real contribution to make to the 14 - 19 applications/admissions arena and feel that by acquiring VIS Communications we will be able to offer the advantage of an independent and national framework working in tandem with diverse and local solutions.'
