Overview
UCAS is the organisation at the heart of connecting people to higher education in the UK. It has a unique role and expertise in matching the aspirations of hundreds of thousands of applicants each year to the right courses in higher education institutions.
With primary responsibility for providing shared admissions services for UK higher education institutions, UCAS has recently developed an ambitious five year strategy aimed at streamlining and enhancing its services to the sector at a time of unprecedented change. Employing over 400 staff, UCAS provides a range of services to complement the core admissions role as well as completing research, consultancy and advisory work for applicants, schools, colleges, careers services, professional bodies and employers.
The organisation now has a range of critical initiatives to deliver in order to support the sector through changes in the provision of higher education, the way it is funded and the consequences for admissions processes and applicant information.
Within the Customer Strategy Unit, a position has arisen in the International team for an International Manager on a one year fixed term basis to manage and implement international strategic development at UCAS. The post-holder will be expected to engage with key stakeholders to understand demand and translate this intelligence into the development of UCAS products and services. The role holder will be expected to have demonstrable experience and knowledge of pertinent issues relating to international recruitment and admissions in higher education in order to provide support for HEI members and deliver robust authoritative intelligence to UCAS.
Role responsibilities:
- Support the development and implementation of international strategy, tracking progress and performance against objectives
- Provide clear briefs in order to direct UCAS' international marketing and communications activities
- To represent UCAS at UK based and overseas events, as prioritized by outcome based targets often liaising and meeting with senior key stakeholders
- Deliver presentations and conference sessions to members and other key stakeholder groups in the UK and overseas
- Input into responses to sector consultations or stakeholder initiatives
- To lead on the creation of the strategically aligned operational plan, ensuring that activities are appropriately researched and selected and that key performance indicators are tracked through the fulfillment of the plan
- Commission market research and share externally sourced market intelligence on the international landscape and international audiences with internal and external stakeholders
- Advise on the content of UCAS' international training and conference offering
- Lead on planning for key international events such as the International Advisers Conference
- Ensure all spend for areas of responsibility are appropriately recorded, and are carried out within agreed budgets.
- Produce detailed reports following international events, conferences and meetings, or in response to proposals or sector initiatives detailing actions, recommendations and monitoring outcomes against objectives
- Gather and analyse intelligence and feedback which will contribute to the development of UCAS' international strategy and policy and the development of new and existing services and systems
- Provide support for and contribute to international steering groups and boards as appropriate
- Make informed recommendations about appropriate changes to products and services based on market intelligence and internal collaboration
- Maintain a thorough understanding of the international customer needs and how UCAS products will satisfy those needs.
Minimum requirements:
Essential:
- Significant knowledge and experience of international recruitment and admissions and demonstrable knowledge of the issues relating to the international sector
- Understanding of marketing and communications channels, processes and nuances relating to international audiences
- Demonstrable experience in developing operational plans and strategies
- Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously
- Ability to work flexibly in a fast paced, demanding environment
- Excellent written and verbal skills, with the ability to communicate to a wide range of audiences
- Strong report writing and presenting skills
- Ability to build effective mutually beneficial relationships with a range of key stakeholders
- Bachelors degree or equivalent
- Budget management experience
- The ability to travel and work overseas independently on a regular basis, including working evenings and weekends where required (time off in lieu applied for weekend work)
Desirable:
- Working experience derived from outside of the UK
- A marketing qualification
- Work within an international context in a UK HEI
