Business Planner & Performance Analyst

Salary: Circa £33,000 (please state your salary expectations)

Overview:

The Business Planner & Performance Analyst will perform a pivotal role in developing and overseeing the implementation of strategic business plans and initiatives to achieve the Corporate Strategy. With responsibility for leading and coordinating the annual planning process and establishing and maintaining appropriate internal controls through management information analysis, reports and recommendations.

Role responsibilities:

Corporate planning

  • Working collaboratively with Finance and Organisational Development teams, to manage the annual planning cycle, including development of the business plan for approval by the Finance Committee and Board.
  • Review and develop recommendations for improvements to the business planning process based on lessons learned from the previous cycle and best practice methodologies.
  • Deliver briefing sessions for Planning Champions, providing support and guidance as required throughout the planning process.
  • Coordinate the review and development of the Corporate Strategy.

Business performance management

  • Build and maintain the corporate strategic and operational scorecards and their component key performance indicators.
  • Facilitate implementation of the business plan, review and make recommendations on the appropriateness of KPIs.
  • Review the relative business priorities and risk profiles, liaising with the Risk Manager to escalate risks and issues to the Management Board as required.
  • Provide business intelligence to support decision-making for the Management Board, UCAS Board & its committees.

Internal governance

  • Maintain and embed the Corporate Decision Making Framework across UCAS, providing a consistent approach across the constituent processes on how decisions are taken and how decision-makers are held to account.
  • Initiate reviews of post-programme and post-project evaluation reports and benefits to ensure strategic goals have been met and lessons learned are shared and communicated to the appropriate teams.
  • Facilitate Management Board meetings and develop appropriate operational reporting templates and tools.
  • Assure the integrity of reports, identifying and highlighting deviations or variances from agreed standards.

Internal audit & assurance

  • Manage the internal audit annual programme of work including coordination of audits, analysis, reporting of recommendations and driving implementation of agreed audit actions.
  • Liaise with the Programme Office to identify high risk projects/activities requiring external assurance.
  • Manage the supplier relationship with the Internal Audit and Assurance provider.
  • Support the completion of programme health checks.

Other

  • Support the coaching and development of team members.
  • Deputise for the Head of Corporate Governance and Performance as required.

Minimum criteria:

  • Providing excellent customer service to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Personal effectiveness including time management, prioritisation and delivery to tight deadlines.
  • Attention to detail with ability to record and collate complex information.
  • Effective team working in a busy, customer-facing role.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills and the ability to communicate complex content to a range of audiences and stakeholders.
  • Confident - able to engage with senior team members and challenge appropriately.
  • High degree of competence in the use of MS Office suite - specifically Word, Excel, PowerPoint, MS Project and MS Visio.
  • Solid understanding of planning, budgeting and forecasting.
  • Experience of Adaptive Planning or other budgeting/forecasting tools.
  • Ability to hold a broad view when recommending changes or decisions, with a considered approach to impacting others. Experience of auditing, assurance or health checks.
